About the Test
Description:

This metabolite is released from muscle under conditions of anaerobic energy production. If high amount are released into the blood, it can disrupt acid/base balance.

Clinical Significance:

To evaluate symptoms that suggest poor oxygen delivery to tissue such as shortness of breath and muscle weakness; to evaluate patients in shock, congestive heart failure or coma.
