Preparing For Your Test

FECAL OCCULT BLOOD COLLECTION


This test is to detect the presence of blood in your feces, which is not always visible to the naked eye. Instructions:

The patient's diet should be free of meat and vegetable sources of peroxidase activity (eg. Turnips, horseradish, red or rare meat, cauliflower, broccoli, cantaloupe and parsnips. Only after following this regimen can a positive series of tests be considered an indication for further patient evaluation and testing.
Pass urine into the toilet if necessary.
Place a wide mouth clean container into the toilet bowl to catch the feces.
Twist the red cap on the collection container to remove it.
The sampling probe is attached to the cap. Obtain the sample on the end of the sampling probe by inserting the probe into 5 to 6 locations in the feces.
Return the sampling probe to the collection container.
Place container into the plastic bag supplied and transport it to the laboratory.



FOLLOWING YOUR BLOOD TEST


Venepuncture is a simple procedure which rarely causes any side effects. Appearance of bruises or mild discomfort can be felt occasionally. The pain is temporary and the bruise will resolve in a few days time.
After blood collection:
Leave the bandage on your collection site for 2 to 3 hours.
Refrain from carrying heavy weights that day.
Wear loose fitting sleeves so that the venepuncture site is not compressed.
If bleeding occurs at the site of venepuncture, apply firm pressure over the area for a few minutes.



MID-STREAM URINE COLLECTION FOR MICRO AND CULTURE- FEMALE


Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure that your results are accurate and reliable.
Obtain a urine container from your laboratory, labeled with your barcode.
Wash your hands.
Remove the lid form the jar and place the jar within easy reach.
Sit well back on the toilet. Par the skin folds (labia) and with the towelettes provided, clean the area from front to back. Use one towelette for each side of the vagina and one for the middle.
Continue to hold the labia apart after cleaning and begin passing urine for about three seconds. Use you free hand to bring the jar into the stream of urine and collect about half a jar of urine. Any remaining urine should be passed into the toilet.
Secure the lid on the jar firmly.
Deliver the specimen to Samyak Diagnostic as soon as possible after collection. If there is any delay, please refrigerate the specimen.



MID-STREAM URINE COLLECTION FOR MICRO AND CULTURE- MALE


Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure your results are accurate and reliable.
Obtain a bar coded urine jar from Samyak Diagnostic.
Wash your hands
Remove the lid form the jar and place the jar within easy reach.
Clean the head of the penis with the towelette provided. If you are not circumcised, the foreskin should be pulled back before cleaning.
Commence passing urine for about 3 seconds, then introduce the jar into the stream and collect about half a jar of urine. Any remaining urine should be passed into the toilet.
Secure the lid firmly.
Deliver the specimen to Samyak diagnostic as soon as the collection is done.



SEMINAL FLUID COLLECTON


It is important to follow the instructions provided to you for accurate results.
Obtain a sterile labeled container from Samyak Diagnostics.
The specimen should be collected five to seven days after the last ejaculation. Do inform the laboratory staff regarding the number of days of sexual abstinence.
Empty your bladder, then wash your hands and penis before collection.
Collect the specimen by masturbation, ejaculating directly into the container provided.
Under no circumstance use condoms or lubricants of any sort. Intercourse followed by early withdrawal is not to be used as this results in contamination with female cells.
Screw the lid of the jar tightly and deliver the sample to the laboratory within 30 minutes if in case the collection was not done in the lab.
Do not refrigerate or allow the specimen temperature to rise above body temperature.



URINE COLLECTION FOR CYTOLOGY


This test involves the examination of either a single urine specimen OR 3 urine specimens obtained on 3 separate days.
Obtain a bar coded collection jar from Samyak Diagnostic.
Do not collect your first urine of the day.
Eat and drink as normal.
Collect your next urine in the container provided.
Secure the lid firmly.
Deliver the sample to Samyak Diagnostic on the same day of collection.
Repeat collections for two more times on separate days as your physician has advised.



24- HOUR URINE COLLECTION PROCEDURE


Steps involved:
Collect your 24 hours urine sample collection container from Samyak Diagnostics.
Void into toilet as usual upon awakening.
Not the time and date on the specimen label, place it on the conainer, and begin timing.
Collect all urine voided for the next 24 hours.
Refrigerate the specimen throughout the collection period if required.
When a bowel movement is anticipated, collect the urine specimen before, not after it.
Drink a normal amount of fluid unless instructed to do otherwise.
Void one last time at the end of the 24 hours.
Seal the container, place it in a portable cooler, and transport it to the laboratory as soon as possible.
